NEW DELHI, October 11, 2021—Delhi Congress workers, under the leadership of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar, held a “Maun Vrath” (silent fast) at Raj Niwas, demanding the arrest of all those involved in the murder of farmers at Lakhimpur Kheri, who were protesting against the draconian Farm Laws passed by the Modi Government, and the resignation/dismissal of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni, whose son was involved in the crime. Delhi Congress held the protest at the direction of the All India Congress Committee, which had given a call for country-wide protests by Congress workers, to awaken the deaf and dump BJP Government at the Centre and the Yogi Adityanath Government in UP, as they had delayed action against the culprits despite there being clear evidence of their involvement in the murder of the farmers.

The Congress workers held placards and banners with slogans such as “Hathyare BJP Netaon Ko fansi Do”, “Modi-Yogi Sarkar Isthifa Do” etc.

Besides Ch. Anil Kumar, prominent others who participated in the “Maun Vrat” were former Union Law Minister Shri Ashwani Kumar Former Union Minister for Womand Child Development Smt. Krishna Tirath and Ex MPs Shri Ramesh Kumar and Dr. Udit Raj, AICC Secretaries CP. Mital and Manish Chatrath, former Delhi Minister Haroon Yusuf and Dr. Yoganand Shastri, Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress President Amrita Dhawan, Ex MLA and DPCC Vice President Jai Kishan, Ex MLAs Anil Bhardwaj, Hari Shankar Gupta, Kunwar Karan Singh, Surender Kumar, Bhishma Sharma, Alka Lamba, Amrish Gautam, Vijay Lochav, Darshana Ramkumar, DPCC Vice Presidents Abhishek Dutt, Mudit Agarwal and Shivani Chopra, District Congress Presidents Mohd. Usman, Dinesh Kumar Advocate, Hari Kishan Jindal, Gurcharan Singh Raju, Rajesh Chauhan, Vishnu Agarwal, Madan Khorwal including MC, ex MCs, BCC presidents and frontal organisations office bearers and workers.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that the kind of lawlessness and goonda raj prevailing in Uttar Pradesh was evident from the brazen manner in which the son of Union Minister of State for Home ran his jeep over the protesting farmers at Lakhimpur Kheri, and yet roamed freely despite mass protests by the farmers, public and Congress leaders Shri Rahul Gandhi and Smt. Priyanka Gandhi, who were first denied permission to go to Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the families of the murdered farmers, before eventually granting permission by the UP Police and administration. He said that the Minister’s son was arrested, only a week after the crime, following strong protests by Rahulji and Priyankaji. He said that it was shocking that PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah had not uttered a word against the crime, nor condemned the action of the Union Minister’s son.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that to ensure an impartial probe into the murder of the farmers by the son of the Union Minister, Prime Minister Modi should ask for the resignation of Minister Ajay Mishra, or else sack him. He said that the Congress party will wage a relentless fight to get justice to the farmers, the families of the murdered farmers, and befitting punishment to the BJP criminals responsible for the murders. He said that the Modi Government passed the black, anti-farmer Laws for the benefit of a few rich friends of PM Modi, and the farmers have been waging a determined protest at the borders of Delhi for the past 10 months, demanding the repeal of the Laws, but despite 700 farmers becoming martyrs to the cause, the Modi Government has not made a single move to address the concerns of the farmers. Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Congress party will not allow the  sacrifices of the farmers to go waste.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that the communal Modi Government has only destroyed democracy and communal amity and brotherhood among the people in the past seven years’ of rule at the Centre, as its sole aim had been to work for the benefit of a chosen few industrialists. He said that if the farm Laws are enforced, the farmers, the food providers of the country, will be strangers in their own land as the rich industrialists will appropriate and monopolize all agricultural activity, to drive out the poor farmers from their traditional vocation. He said that ever since the BJP took the reigns of power at the Centre, the common people have been suffering untold misery, as people have lost their jobs and livelihoods, prices have soared through the roof, petrol, diesel and cooking gas have gone beyond the purchasing the power of the citizens, and those who were destroyed by the Corona pandemic have not got any financial relief from the Government, and they are still struggling to get their lives back on track, but the Modi Government’s every move has been to squeeze the common people from all sides, to destroy their lives, without redemption.
