Chandigarh, 7th, April.
The
General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee and former Union
Minister, Kumari Selja said that the BJP-led state government has
already prepared to close both central workshops of Haryana Roadways.
Meanwhile, a conspiracy to close Haryana Roadways Engineering
Corporation (HREC) Gurugram has been underway for a long time. The state
government's aim is to privatize transportation services at every level
in order to issue permits for buses to private entities instead of
state-run services.
In a statement released to the media, Kumari
Selja said that bus bodies were manufactured at HREC Gurugram. Bodies
were not only made for Haryana Roadways but also for buses of other
states by their respective governments. The name and work of HREC were
so prominent that there used to be a waiting period to get bus bodies
manufactured here. Work orders were being issued throughout the year.
However, the BJP government has started its own moves to shut it down.
The former Union Minister said that it would be unfortunate for the
state, which instead of getting bus bodies for Haryana Roadways made at
its own workshop, has started getting them made by private companies.
Roadways employees and unions often point out the shortcomings of these
buses. However, despite this, the BJP government has not opened its
eyes, and now efforts are underway again to get bodies of new buses
manufactured by private companies. Kumari Selja said that there are
central workshops of Haryana Roadways in Karnal and Hisar districts.
These workshops carry out tasks such as engine maintenance, pump work,
tire retreading, etc. The skill and quality of work in both workshops
are good and better than private companies. However, a committee has
been formed to review their work with the intention of closing these
workshops, so that a decree to close them can be issued based on its
report. The former Union Minister said that there have been many
instances before where private individuals were being given route
permits. The policy has been changed to favor private partnerships.
Looking at all these activities in the transportation department, it can
be estimated that privatization may happen anytime. Initially, private
participation is being increased so that losses can be shown. After
that, based on these losses, they will be closed permanently. It is
clear from the policies and intentions of the BJP government that an
attempt is being made to privatize every department of the country. The
public is completely fed up with the BJP's style of functioning, and the
BJP will have to pay the price for it in the upcoming elections.
