CALLOUS APPROACH OF CIVIC AUTHORITIES TOWARDS PATHETIC & INHOSPITABLE CONDITIONS AT PUNJABI BAGH TRANSPORT CENTRE, DELHI

The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), the apex body of the Indian road transport industry, today expressed grave concern about the persistently deplorable conditions at the Punjabi Bagh Transport Centre in Delhi.

Despite repeated attempts to draw attention to the critical issues plaguing this vital hub, including letters sent on September 25, 2023, December 14, 2023, January 25, 2024, March 14, 2024, and subsequent reminders, the AIMTC has received no response or action from the relevant authorities.

"We are disheartened by the callous approach, utter lack of response and action from the authorities," said Sh Jaspal Singh, Vice President (NoRTH Zone) of AIMTC. "The situation at the Punjabi Bagh Transport Centre remains dire, with our members – truckers, operators, and even local residents – facing unacceptable challenges due to the ongoing neglect of basic amenities, sanitation, and infrastructure."

Key Issues at Punjabi Bagh Transport Centre:

Deteriorating infrastructure: Roads, drainage, and sanitation facilities are in a state of disrepair, leading to waterlogging, health hazards, and compromised hygiene.
Public health risks: Unsanitary conditions create a breeding ground for diseases, particularly mosquito-borne illnesses. Dust pollution is pervasive, causing respiratory problems.
Safety concerns: Inadequate lighting and encroachments by roadside vendors and mechanics contribute to a decline in safety and an increase in thefts and criminal activities.
Unusable spaces: Illegal occupancy of unused plots further diminishes the functionality of the area, impacting both work and living conditions.

AIMTC Seeks Urgent Intervention:

"The ongoing lack of basic amenities in the heart of our nation's capital calls into question the efficiency of Delhi's governance and the adequacy of service delivery by its civic authorities." The AIMTC has repeatedly sought intervention to rectify these issues and represented a number of times to all relevant authorities but has been met with silence. "The situation demands immediate attention and decisive action," said Sh Amritlal Madan, President of AIMTC. "It seems our concerns are not being taken seriously, with the issue being passed from one department to another."

Given the urgency of the matter, the AIMTC has requested a personal audience with LG of Delhi to discuss these issues comprehensively, but response is received till date.

"We believe that his concerted intervention will help resolve these longstanding challenges and restore a conducive environment for our members and the community," said Jaspal Singh, Vice President (North Zone) of AIMTC.

We attach herewith latest photos and video depicting the precarious conditions of the Punjabi Bagh Transport Centre, Delhi  and request to highlight the same in your esteemed media and ask the authorities to address these pressing issues.
