DPCC president Shri Devender Yadav assures over 5 lakh street vendors of Delhi of implementation of the Street Vendors Act-2014 to ply their trade without harassment from various Government agencies

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Devender Yadav said that due to the deliberate neglect of the plight of the street vendors in Delhi by the BJP Government at the Centre, no vending zones have been created for them to carry on their trade peacefully, and  the land owning agencies of Delhi like the DDA, MCD and NDMC have been harassing them to prevent them from earning their livelihood. He said that 2.5 per cent of the total population of Delhi would benefit when the Street Vendors Act-2014 was fully implemented.

Addressing a Town Hall at the Constitution Club today, Shri Devender Yadav said that the Congress-led UPA Government had passed the Street Vendors Act-2014, which was made into an Act of the Parliament, enacted to regulate street vendors in public areas and protect their rights, but the Modi Government did not take any step to implement them and  create vending zones. He said that the Street Vendors Act-2014 is a pioneering initiative to protect the livelihood rights and social security of urban street vendors in the country and thereby aid poverty alleviation efforts of the Government.

Prominent among those present at the Town Hall, besides Shri Devender Yadav, were DPCC communication department Chairman Shri Anil Bhardwaj, Shri Arbind Singh and Shri Tasveer Solanki.

Shri Devender Yadav assured the street vendors that when the Congress and India Alliance partners come to power at the Centre, the Street Vendors’ Act- 2014 will be implemented to protect the rights of the street vendors to ply their trade without harassment from the police and other agencies.
