Sirsa/Chandigarh, 23rd May

The General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee and a firebrand leader, Priyanka Gandhi arrived in Sirsa on Thursday, the last day of the election campaign. She participated in a roadshow in support of the Congress candidate from the India Alliance, Kumari Selja. For about one hour and ten minutes, Priyanka Gandhi continuously greeted people under the scorching sun, successfully strengthening the election campaign for Kumari Selja. The roadshow began from Shri Shyam Bagichi Grain Market and passed through Janata Bhawan, Jagdev Singh Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Bhagat Singh Chowk, Parshuram Chowk, and ended at Ambedkar Chowk. The roads of Sirsa city were jam-packed due to the massive crowd. Despite the intense heat, the pace of the roadshow was slow, and the enthusiastic crowd could not move forward, so the roadshow had to be concluded at Ambedkar Chowk instead of continuing to Sangwan Chowk as planned due to heatwave warnings and concerns for public health.

During the roadshow, Priyanka Gandhi stood at the front of a specially designed vehicle, with Congress candidate Kumari Selja on her left and former minister Kiran Choudhary on her right. This was the first time Priyanka Gandhi came to Haryana for election campaigning during the Lok Sabha elections. She first came to Sirsa and participated in a single roadshow as the party's star campaigner. Due to the unexpectedly large crowd, Kumari Selja had to take the mic and manage the arrangements herself. Because it was the last day of the campaign and the heat was intense, Kumari Selja repeatedly urged the crowd to move forward. People standing on both sides of the road showered flowers on Priyanka Gandhi, Kumari Selja, and other leaders. The presence of Priyanka Gandhi in the roadshow also brought back memories of Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, as the same theme song was played during the roadshow. It is noteworthy that Rahul Gandhi conducted the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Haryana twice. During the roadshow, the crowd of workers chanted slogans in favor of the Congress party, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Kumari Selja. Priyanka Gandhi and Kumari Selja were seen conversing occasionally on the special vehicle. Present on the occasion were former minister Kiran Choudhary, MLA Shishpal Keharwala, MLA Amit Sihag, former minister Paramvir Singh, former MLA Nishan Singh, former MP Charanjeet Singh Rori, former MP Dr. Sushil Kumar Indora, former MLA Jarnail Singh, former MLA Bharat Singh Bainiwal, former MLA Balwan Singh Daulatpuria, former MLA Prahlad Singh Gillakheda, former MLA Kulveer Singh Bainiwal, AICC Secretary Vineet Poonia, senior Congress leader Dr. KV Singh, Veer Bhan Mehta, Ameer Chand Chawla, Dr. Virendra Sivach, Santosh Bainiwal, Pawan Bainiwal, Naveen Kedia, Rajkumar Sharma and Vineet Kamboj along with officials, workers, and supporters of the parties included in the India Alliance.

The General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee and the party's star campaigner, Priyanka Gandhi said that there is a wave against the BJP in Haryana. There is an undercurrent throughout the country. People are tired of their (Modi-BJP) politics. They play power politics and can do anything for power. This is a politics that disregards the public. The country is suffering from high unemployment and inflation, and people are exhausted. There will certainly be change in the country. Priyanka Gandhi said that change is certain in Haryana too, and the Congress will win with a substantial majority in all seats in the state. She was speaking to some journalists after the roadshow, accompanied by Congress candidate from Sirsa Lok Sabha, Kumari Selja. The massive crowd in the roadshow demonstrated Kumari Selja's political strength. Priyanka Gandhi's arrival in Sirsa and participation in Kumari Selja's roadshow has confirmed that Kumari Selja has a strong hold over the Congress high command. This Lok Sabha election saw Priyanka Gandhi's first visit to Haryana, where she participated in a roadshow in Sirsa despite the scorching heat. Kumari Selja has been considered the strongest candidate from the start. Still, the way Priyanka Gandhi participated in the roadshow on the last day of the campaign suggests that Kumari Selja's victory could be the biggest in North India, not just in Haryana. Rahul Gandhi had held public meetings in Charkhi Dadri and Sonipat on May 22, while Priyanka Gandhi's roadshow in Sirsa became the only such event in the state attended by a member of the Gandhi family. Priyanka Gandhi appeared delighted with the massive crowd, continuously greeting the public. Despite the last day of the sixth phase of election campaigning, Priyanka Gandhi devoted significant time to Kumari Selja's roadshow, indicating Kumari Selja's strong connections with the Gandhi family and her inclusion in the party's good books. The overwhelming crowd showed Kumari Selja political strength to Priyanka Gandhi. The success of Kumari Selja roadshow is expected to increase the anxiety among opponents, and Priyanka Gandhi's support is likely to disturb some of them. During the roadshow, Kumari Selja urged the people of the Lok Sabha constituency to come out and vote in her favor despite the heat. Various places in Sirsa city welcomed the roadshow of Congress candidate Kumari Selja and Priyanka Gandhi. Cultural performances in traditional Haryanvi attire along the roadside received much applause. Troupes of Haryanvi artists, dressed in full traditional Haryanvi costumes, were seen performing folk dances to the tunes of Haryanvi songs.
