Under the leadership of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Devender Yadav, thousands of Congress workers held “matka phod” (breaking of pitchers) demonstrations in all the 280 blocks of Delhi to protest against severe water scarcity all across Delhi due to the shadow boxing and blame games between the BJP and Aam Aadmi Party Governments.

Agitated Congress workers and local residents, carrying placards and banners, shouted anti-Kejriwal and anti-AAP Government slogans such as “Pani Ke Liye Delhi Behal-Tanker Mafia Malamal”, “Ye Kaisa Pani Maaf Hai, Jaar Khareedne Me Jeb Saaf Hai”, “Dilli Sarkar Ki Ye Nadani, Leakage Se Behta 58% Paani”, Dilli Ki Ye Dukhad Kahan, Janta Peeti Dushit Paani”, and “Kharid Ke Paani Peeta Har Pariwar, Neend Me Soi Dilli Sarkar”.

Besides Shri Devender Yadav, prominent among those who participated in the “matka phod’ protests were Ex MP Shri Ramesh Kumar, Ex Minister Mangat Ram Singhal and Dr. Narender Nath, Ex MLAs Ch. Mateen Ahmed, Vijay Lochav, Jai Kishan, Amrish Gautam and Veer Singh Dhingan, Ex Mayor Farhad Suri, DCC presidents Virender Kasana, Rajesh Chauhan, Manoj Yadav, Vishnu Aggarwal, Dinesh Advocate, Dharampal Chandela, Kamalkant Sharma, Mohd. Usman, Sidharth Rao, Ex MC Khavinder Singh Captain, Ch. Ajit Singh, Neetu Verma, Prerna Singh,  P.S. Bawa, Pradeep Gupta, J P Panwar.

Shri Devender Yadav said that Delhi Congress has been taking up the water scarcity issue for the past 20-25 days to ensure that people get potable water for their daily needs, but due to the inaction and dilly-dallying by the AAP Government in Delhi and the BJP Government at the Centre, people have been struggling to get even a drop of potable water, and many residents have been complaining of getting dirty water in their taps. He said that both the BJP and AAP Governments have been neglecting the plight of the people by accusing each other for the water scarcity, instead of taking effective steps to solve the water crisis. He said that the collusion between the tanker mafia and the ruling party MLAs, and wide-spread corruption, were the primary reasons for Delhi’s water crisis.

Shri Devender Yadav said that the Congress workers were forced to come out on the streets to break  pitchers in each of the 280 Blocks to wake up the  Delhi Government and the BJP Government as they seemed to be least concerned about the hardships being faced by the people. He said that Congress has been taking up the issues affecting the people like water scarcity and the frequent power break downs, as the Delhi Government was not doing anything to address these issues.

Shri Devender Yadav said that BJP and Aam Aadmi Party have been playing shadow boxing on the issue of the  BJP-ruled Haryana Government not releasing water to meet the requirement of Delhi. He said that the AAP Government should have taken up the water crisis with the Central Government, and sought release of water by the Himachal Pradesh, UP and Haryana Governments to meet the water requirements of Delhi, but it kept quiet till the water  crisis went out of control. He said that the fact that the Delhi Government has not done anything to solve the water shortage in Delhi for the past 10 years, including enlarging the water treatment capacity of Delhi Jal Board plants, shows its neglect of the needs of the people of Delhi.
