Delhi Congress demands CAG audit of the accounts of the DISCOMs to expose their corruption and fleecing of power consumers—Power at half the rate promise now sells at double the rate—Haroon Yusuf

NEW DELHI, July 31, 2024—Former Delhi Minister Shri Haroon Yusuf demanded CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General) audit of the accounts of the power distribution companies in Delhi, as in collusion with the Kejriwal Government, the DISCOMs have been looting the power consumers by imposing heavy financial burden on them on various heads like fixed charge, PPAC (Power Purchase Adjustment Charges) and energy tax etc. He said that now every three months, PPAC tariff is hiked to put unaffordable financial burden on the people.

Addressing a press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan here today, along with Chairman of the Communications Department and ex-MLA Shri Anil Bhardwaj, Shri Haroon Yusuf said that Kejriwal had promised to supply power at half the rate, but Delhiites are now forced to shell out Rs 10 per unit now, which was double the rate of Rs 5 per unit charged when Congress was in power. Shri Haroon Yusuf said that the Kejriwal Government’s power subsidy promise was a sham deal as  it collected Rs 37,227  from the people while giving away Rs 11,743 crore in subsidy.

Chairman of the Communications Department Shri Devender Yadav said that when the first monsoon rains lashed Delhi on June 28, six people had lost their lives, and by July 31, within one month, 15 succumbed to electrocution and water-logging, for which the Delhi Government and the MCD were fully responsible. He said that every infrastructure in the Capital had collapsed and governance was in a shambles too, with the Ministers and officials blaming each other for the total chaos in which Delhi has fallen. He said that Delhi Congress took out candle-light marches in all the 280 blocks of Delhi to expose the total failures of the BJP and AAP Governments.
