NEW DELHI, August 22, 2024—Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC), under the leadership of DPCC president Shri Devender Yadav, held a dharna at Jantar Mantar today, demanding a JPC (Joint Parliamentary Committee) probe into the latest Hindenberg report, which has exposed Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch’s links with the Adani group, though  SEBI’s role is to act as a watchdog of the stock market, and to protest against unemployment, corruption and anarchism in the country with the Modi Government working only for the benefit of a select few rich people. Thousands of Congress workers and leaders, who attended the dharna, raised slogans against the wrong policies of the Modi Government for the past 10 years because of which unemployment and corruption have risen sharply. He demanded a JPC probe to unravel the whole truth on the Hindenburg expose on SEBI chief’s links with the Adani companies. He said that a JPC probe will be totally impartial, as it will consist of representatives of all political parties, including the BJP. The function was moderated by Chairman of the Communications Department and ex-MLA Shri Anil Bhardwaj.

Addressing thousands of Congress workers, who were present braving the humid and hot weather, DPCC president Shri Devender Yadav said that Congress and Shri Rahul Gandhi have been expressing concern at the wide gap between the rich and the poor in the country, with the rich getting richer and the poor becoming poorer at an alarming pace, as the Modi Government’s policies have been designed to make a chosen few rich friends of Modi like Adani richer, facilitating the takeover of airports, ports, railways and profit-making Public Sector Undertakings without any hitch.

Shri Devender Yadav said that the Modi Government has been doing injustice to the poor, Dalits and deprived class  by  suppressing them, while a few wealthy friends of Modi and the stars in his eyes have been thriving.  Quoting the   example of BSNL, Shri Devender Yadav said that though the telecom giant has the largest network of mobile towers, a deliberate attempt has been made to weaken it so that private players could capture its space and  infrastructure.

Shri Devender Yadav reiterated the Congress demand to hold a JPC probe on Madhabi Buch’s links with the Adani group and many other questions raised by the Hindenburg report. He said that it was a matter of pride for the Congress party that due to the relentless efforts by Congress president Shri Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition Shri Rahul Gandhi to raise issues affecting the people inside and outside Parliament, the Modi Government was forced to bend and roll back many of its decisions, like the  recent move to make lateral entry of  mid-level bureaucrats as Congress has always espoused the causes of the people.

Shri Devender Yadav demanded the resignation of the SEBI chairman Madhabi Buch or else the Government should sack her.

Shri Devender Yadav also slammed the AAP Government in Delhi as due to its corruption, inaction, incompetence and wrong policies, the Capital’s infrastructure has deteriorated, and  people have been suffering. He said that it was an irony that the AAP leaders, who swore by honesty and integrity, are now behind bars for corruption and money laundering. He said that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal continues to remain in his post despite being in jail while Manish Sisodia was given bail after spending 17 months behind bars, but after coming out of jail, AAP has been felicitating Sisodia and he has been going on  padayatras as he if had come out after winning a major battle. He said that Sisodia’s padyatra was to polish his political career from the stains of corruption and jail term.

Shri Devender Yadav appealed to the Congress workers to spare no effort to bring Congress back to power. He said that the time ahead will be that of the Congress as the party’s increased vote share in the Lok Sabha elections was a clear indication of a Congress resurgence in Delhi.

AICC general secretary Shri Sachin Pilot said that the rag-tag  Modi Government has been passing new bills and laws at regular intervals but the Government does not have answers to the questions raised by Leader of the Opposition Shri Rahul Gandhi and Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, and because of which the Government had to make U-turn on many of its decisions. Shri Sachin Pilot said that Shri Rahul Gandhi has been waging a determined battle, on behalf of 95 per population of the country, to get justice for the neglected, ignored and sidelined sections of the people. He said that  during the Modi regime, the gap between the rich and the poor have widened so sharply that a few rich people control the wealth and business of the country.
